Kemper Direct Auto and Home Insurance is the author of direct car insurance to consumers headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is a subsidiary of Kemper Corporation, which has more than $ 8 billion in assets and more than six million policyholders.

History
Unitrin Direct was established in 2000 as a subsidiary of Unitrin, Inc. (NYSE: UTR).
In 2002 Unitrin Direct acquired eKemper and merged businesses under Unitrin Direct.
On June 29, 2007, Trinity Universal Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Unitrin Inc., purchased Merastar Insurance Company: a company based in Chattanooga, Tennessee that specializes in selling private cars, homeowners, boats, and personal umbrella insurance through sponsored employers voluntary benefit program. The sale was completed for a cash payment of approximately $ 47 Million. Merastar Insurance becomes part of Unitrin Direct.
Starting August 25, 2011, Unitrin officially began operating as Kemper Corporation, trading on the New York Stock Exchange as a ticker symbol of KMPR. On May 2, 2012, Unitrin Direct officially changed its name to Kemper Direct.
On July 19, 2012, Kemper Corporation announced it would suspend direct marketing activities for Kemper Direct, after placing Kemper Direct into a runoff strategy.

iMingle
Mingle is a brand that is targeted for what the company calls "i Generation". iMingle was launched in 2010 and is available in many, but not all, states that Kemper branded direct products.

Teachers.com is a brand that is primarily targeted to current or retired professional educators by offering them special discounts educated by educators about their car insurance. It was launched in 1992, although it was not acquired by Kemper Corporation (later Unitrin, Inc.) until 2009.
