Hastings Insurance Services Ltd is a UK personal insurance broker serving customers online, by phone and by branch. The company provides auto insurance, bicycles, vans and homes, as well as various additional products and services such as cover damage, personal accident, replacement vehicles and lock and legal cover. This is part of Hastings Group, a UK public limited company listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituency of the FTSE 250 Index.

History
The company was founded, based on a business plan prepared by David Gundlach and Andrew Bowen, as "Hastings Direct" in 1997. The company was acquired by Insurance Australia Group in 2006 and later by its management in 2009. In 2011 the company announced that 150 new posts will be made, with the first 60 to be recruited in January in the Bexhill, Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton and Hove areas. Goldman Sachs acquired a 50% stake in the company in 2013. The company became the subject of an initial public offering in October 2015.

Operation
The company is trading under Hastings Direct, Hastings Premier, Hastings Essential, SmartMiles, People's Choice and InsurePink brands. In 2012, the company launched a usage-based insurance product under the Hastings Direct SmartMiles brand. SmartMiles products require telematics devices to be installed on an insured vehicle.
The company is known for its mascot, Harry Hastings, an animated figure who wore armor from the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Based in Bexhill-on-Sea, the company is one of the largest companies on the South Coast. The company also has a second call center in Leicester.
