In the US state of Arizona, US. Route 93 is U.S. Highway. which starts at Wickenburg and heads north to the Nevada border at Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

As part of a proposal by city leaders in Nevada and Arizona, the highway can be replaced by Interstate 11.

Route description

The following narration goes in the direction of the descending reference post . Arizona always signed this special route with a zero mile point located on the Nevada border. Until October 19, 2010, the point was at the top of the Hoover Dam, but has since been on the state line along Mike O'Callaghan - the new Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

The southern Terminus of US 93 is located at the intersection (built and relocated between February 2008 and February 2010) with US 60 in Wickenburg, a small town some 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Phoenix. He headed northwest from this intersection to the intersection with SR 89 (former US 89) across the Maricopa - Yavapai county line in the northwest of the city. SR 89 heads northeast to Prescott while US 93 continues northbound, as a two-lane highway with a path that passes every few miles. US 93 continues to the northwest to the intersection with SR 71 at the southwest diamond junction of Congress. While continuing to the northwest through this beautiful yet remote rural area, this highway is known as Arizona's Joshua Forest Park.

The highway widened into four lanes on the Santa Maria River and continued northwest through the intersection with SR 97 on the way to the town of Wikieup. Before reaching the city, pass a small settlement There is nothing (directly opposite Yavapai - Mohave county line) and cross Burro Creek through a double arch steel bridge about 400 meters above the river.

After passing Wikieup, US 93 curved north to follow the western edge of Big Sandy River and one of its tributaries, Knight Creek, en route to Interstate 40.

At I-40's exit 71, US 93 merges with the Interstate highway and shares the same position heading west until they reach Kingman. The two split in Kingman with I-40 heading south to round the southern edge of the Black Mountains before curling west and into California and US 93 heading northwest toward Las Vegas. A project is currently underway to design and build free flowing connections between I-40 and US 93 in western Kingman, to avoid the current diamond junction (exit 48) on Beale Street and about a mile of crowded, undivided parts which must be taken by US riders before the road widened back to a four-lane facility.

Northwest of Kingman and over Coyote Pass, US 93 has an interchange with SR 68 (exit 67). This intersection incorporates the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Station (CVIS), called ADOT as "Entrance Port" (POE), for commercial traffic to the south and east. Highway 68 leads west over the Black Mountains to Davis Dam, Laughlin and Bullhead City (the last through SR 95), while US 93 continues as a four-lane route divided to the northwest. Walking through the long Detrital Valley, with the Black Mountains to the west and the Cerbat Mountains and then Bukit Putih to the east, US 93 passes through some small settlements in this most remote area. As it approached the Nevada border, it entered the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and climbed over the Householder Pass, before crossing into Nevada via Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge over Black Canyon downstream from Hoover Dam.

US 93 continues into Nevada to the cities of Boulder City, Henderson and Las Vegas.

History

The route between Kingman and Hoover Dam first became part of the state highway system in 1934 when it was designated as SR 69. At that time, Dam Hoover was still under construction and the highway was not connected to Nevada. The dam was completed the following year in 1935 that allowed traffic to cross over the dam. That year, US 466 was set on SR 69 from Kingman to Hoover Dam. US 93 extended to south of (then) US 91 in Glendale, Nevada in 1951.

In 1935, Arizona proposed an extension of US 93 from Kingman to Ash Fork, overlapping US 66, and then south to Phoenix. The proposal was protested by the towns of Aguila and Wickenburg who argued that US 93 had to pass through their towns rather than the proposed directions to the east. The town of Wickenburg is fighting that the direct route between Phoenix and Kingman will be 100 miles (161 km) shorter than the route through Ash Fork and that it will provide necessary links between Phoenix, the state capital, and the northwest part of the state.. Until 1937, a previously proposed extension overlapping US 66 remained in planning as US 93T. The children's route, US 193, is also planned, traveling from Phoenix via Sacaton and Casa Grande before ending in Picacho. US 193 was briefly reworked under the US 93A stipulation before the proposal was abandoned in 1937.

On March 23, 1946, what would be the US southern leg of 93 Kingman's past was added to the State Highway System as State Route 93. Between 1942 and 1958, the highway was rebuilt and reworked to be a suitable highway for a US final extension. 93. Although the state wanted US 93 to extend over all SR 93 through Phoenix, Casa Grande and Tucson to the Mexican border in Nogales, the southern extension was only accepted by the AASHTO to US 89 north of Wickenburg in 1965. The remaining SR 93 maintains state routes up to the year 1984.

Until 1992, US 93 ended at a short distance north of Wickenburg, Arizona at a junction with US Route 89. When US 89 was disabled in the area, the appointment of US 93 was brought to Wickenburg.

Between 2006 and 2012, there are several widening projects completed in the section between Wickenburg and Interstate 40.

New bypass bridge

US 93 (with US 60 to southeast Wickenburg) is the shortest route between the thriving cities of Las Vegas and Phoenix, the two largest cities in the Southwest (and an official part of the CANAMEX Corridor). Increased US 60 and US 93 toll road status into four scheduled routes between Las Vegas and Phoenix; in the fall of 2009, most of the northern part of the Santa Maria River was already on four lane highways (with some recent sections probably built to Interstate standards) with ongoing construction. This routing is part of the proposed Interstate 11 that potentially connects Interstate 10 west of Phoenix with Interstate 515 southeast of Las Vegas.

This new road segment consists of a new route across the Colorado River called Bypass Dam Hoover. The new intersection is Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, the first concrete steel concrete arch bridge built in the United States. The bridge is 1,900 feet (579 m) with a main range of 1,080 feet (329 m). The street is 840 feet (256 m) above the river.

The shortcut replaces the old part of the United States 93 that approaches and crosses directly over the Hoover Dam, which is inadequate by modern standards, as there is one narrow path in every direction, including some sharp turns, many dangerous turns, and poor visibility. Also, after the 11 September 2001 attacks, truck traffic over Hoover Dam has been diverted south to a river that crosses near Laughlin, Nevada, in an attempt to protect the dam from dangerous spills or explosions.
