State Road 50 (SR 50) passes through Florida's US state center via Orlando, with its terminal at SR 55 (US 19) at Weeki Wachee and SR 5 (Route 1 AS) at Titusville.

SR 50 signed east-west. In counties throughout the state, roads are signed under various names; such as Cortez Boulevard in Hernando County, and Colonial Drive in Orange County. The previous section includes concurrency with US 98 between Brooksville and nearby Ridge Manor. US 98-SR 50 is the only exchange with Interstate 75 in Hernando County.

Parts of SR 50 east of SR 436 follow the original Cheney Road, which is named for John Moses Cheney and is the first road to the coast from Orlando. The full journey from Orlando to Titusville on the Old Cheney Highway, however, is not possible due to the demolition of the bridge over the Econlockhatchee River. At the east terminal of SR 50, the NASA Vehicle Assembly Building is visible.

State Road 408, also known as the East-West Expressway or Toll Road 408, from a western point near Ocoee, Florida to its eastern tip near the University of Central Florida near Bithlo, Florida, runs almost parallel to the SR 50, with most of the way out at 408 is within a mile to 2 miles away from SR 50. The East-West Expressway was originally designed to, and still does, reduce traffic congestion on SR 50 during peak hours.

Route description

Hernando and Sumter Counties

State Road 50 starts on US 19 and County Road 550 in the former City of Weeki Wachee The first intersection around the eastern side of the city limits is with Deltona Boulevard (CR 589), which can be found on the opposite side of the Western Hernando Public Library District. From here the roads are largely lined with residential properties in the southern commercial office and rarely start from the Hernando County Firehouse, to the office for the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, to a random medical office. East of Nightwalker Road and July Avenue, SR 50 enters land owned by the Southwest Florida Water Management District, and the right lane for a series of power lines. From there, the road becomes the official northern boundary between Spring Hill and unrelated Brooksville as it approaches the Hillhill Hills Reservation. Immediately after the entrance to the Scout Camp, the road cut Oak Hill Hospital on the opposite side. Shortly after the hospital, SR 50 climbed the hill and cut with the gate to High Point.

From this point, the SR 50 is a symbol of a suburban sprawl that defines Hernando County. It also contains a series of front-end roads that are not linked to those on US 19. Although most of the stores along the front road consist of mini-malls, medical offices, and automotive repair shops, there are three major shopping centers to be found at the intersection with Mariner Boulevard, set as CR 587 in South SR 50. The east of the three major shopping centers is Wal-Mart Supercenter and Sam's Club Warehouse on the same side of the road. The Sam's Club is west of the junction of Sunshine Grove Road (CR 493) and Twin Dolphin Road, where the SR 50 crosses the right lane for other power lines. While the SR 50 climbs the hill and then declines, the Twin Dolphin runs parallel to the eastern path while climbing its own hill but then ends on the same eastern path before SR 50 cuts off CR 585 (Barclay Avenue) and the entrance to Brookridge. From here the road runs along the southern edge of Brookridge until it cuts Oak Avenue, just before passing under a pedestrian bridge/bike west of the Suncoast Parkway intersection, and immediately cuts CR 570 (Wiscon Road), where curves go northeast. Curving back eastward, the SR 50 cuts off the other previous section in CR 484 and then serves as the northern terminal for CR 583 (California Street). The right path to the frontage road on the south ends east of Colorady Street, then down the road to Lykes Dublin Road and passes Brooksville Regional Hospital, which moved from Brooksville City in the first decade of the 21st century. The road then curves northeast into Brooksville City. The right path to another frontage road is built on the north side of SR 50 in front of the hospital, and it is assumed to place a nurse in the hospital. This road is meant to stretch as far east as Mobley Road. Both the street and the nursing place have been built in this paper.

At the southern end of CR 485 and the west end of State Road 50A, the SR 50 takes a sharp right turn and joins the US 98 Truck Route around downtown Brooksville, but never really leaves the city limits. Curving south-east near the Hernando County Sheriff's Department headquarters, the rest of the former rural characteristics of Brooksville can still be found, up close to US 41 where hidden State Road 700 quietly joins the road. Climbing another hill, the road turned east again where it passed in front of a pair of churches before the intersection of County Road 445 (Main Street) and Mitchell Road, and then a crossroads in class with Brooksville Subdivision CSX. After the crossing with CR 581, the road turns northeast as it approaches the junction of Jasmine Boulevard, but more importantly US 98 and east terminal SR 50A, as well as the eastern terminal of the US Truck Route 98. From here the speed limit increases to 60 miles per hour. It moves mainly southeast through agricultural land and swamp forest. US 98/SR 50 eventually turned straight east again when it was running between a pair of lakebeds before the crossing with CRs 484 and 541. At this point, the road moved up and down a series of hills but passed first by the public like Rolling Acres and Hill 'n Dale , where the road frontage housing can be found on the north side. The hills continue along the road, but along the more agricultural and sparsely populated areas, among them Wildlife Lane. A caravan park can be found west of Lockhart Road, which houses dog shows. Entering an unrelated Ridge of West community, this road approaches several hotels, gas stations and restaurants serving motorcyclists and tourists on Interstate 75. The US 98-SR 50 is the only intersection along I-75 in Hernando County, and turning lanes left leading to the famous short ramp. Right east of I-75 is a development that shares the name of the community as well as one shopping center.

The road takes one last drop, just to go up again and officially enter Ridge Manor at the intersection of Kettering Road and Croom-Rital Road leading to a trailhead for Withlacoochee State Trail US 98-SR 50 pass under the bridge for this road. At the intersection of the Withlacoochee River, two streets are on the east side of the river; Paul N. Steckle Lane, and Ridge Manor Boulevard. The shorter Paul N. Steckle Lane is on the north side and contains the Hernando County Firehouse, a local residence, and an entrance to the Cypress Lake Nature Reserve. Ridge Manor Boulevard begins on the south side, and across to the north east side of the fire station and west of East Solid Waste Waste Convenience Station. When US 98 turns southeast toward Trilby, Dade City, and West Palm Beach, the SR 50 continues east and narrows to two lanes. The last major intersection in Hernando County is with the US 301. After this, the road passes a sand mine, and the right path to the segment left by Ridge Manor Boulevard, before crossing the Wildwood CSX Sub-section (part of -Line), and then serves as the northern terminal CR 575 which became State Road after entering Pasco County. SR 50 turns northeast and enters the Withlacoochee State Forest. In the forest, the road crosses the Little River Withlacoochee, a tributary of the Withlacoochee River, where it crosses the Hernando-Sumter County Line.

When SR 50 enters Sumter County, it continues to move further north, but at CR 478A junction, it returns east before entering Tarrytown and finally cuts off State Road 471 where one can find a clear view of the woodwork. East here, SR 50 stretches on the north side of the previous Orange Trail Train line. Both the SR 50 and the railroad pass through unrelated communities in the Linden countryside and then Mabel, which serves as the northern terminal for General James A. Van Fleet State Trail. Access to the trail can be found at the intersection of Southeast 121st Avenue located east of the former railway bridge over the right lane for the former railway track used by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad stretching from Coleman to Auburndale in Polk. County until the 1980s. This bridge was eliminated by the Florida Department of Transportation in the early 2010s. The last intersection in Sumter County is CR 469, which takes the rider to Center Hill. SR 50 crosses the Sumter-Lake County Line around a series of power lines.

Lake County and Western Orange County

Upon entering Lake County, SR 50 defended its rural neighborhood as it traveled through an unrelated community like Sloans Ridge, but even after running through Stuckey, the characteristic diminished as the road moved further east. In Mascotte City, the name SR 50 turns into West Myers Boulevard. After the Orange Belt train before crossing the road, a multiplex with State Road 33 begins at CR 33 (Bluff Lake Road), where the SR 50 suddenly becomes a four-lane highway called East Myers Boulevard. After crossing with Atlantic Avenue, SR 33-50 also acquired the name of Broad Street. Both names were distributed until the road entered the city limits of Groveland, and Myers Boulevard ended. The divider is widened further at a BP gas station at a fork in the road when the SR 50 becomes a pair of one-way streets at Downtown Groveland. Eastbound SR 33-50 to Orange Street, while SR 33-50 to the west remains Broad Street. After passing Lake David, the road cuts State Road 19. Two roads carrying two directions from SR 50 merge again at the eastern end of the multiplex with State Road 33. Broad Street continues to take SR 50 to the east as four divided highway lanes. About two blocks east of CR 565A, the road crosses into Clermont City, where it passes two developments before descending slightly and southeast to cross the Palatlakaha River between Lake Hiawatha and Palatlakaha, the latter having a trailer park on the path to the east. Motorists can see the Florida Citrus Tower before the crossing with CR 561 (12th Street), where the tower itself can be found on the north side. Three intersections later on West Avenue, the road stretches east again in front of the Lake Center to the north side and two blocks north of Lake Winona on the south side. After passing Crystal Lake to the north, the SR 50 stretches along the northern edge of Lake Sunnyside, where it then travels to the southeast before reaching countless junctions with US 27.

When the road crosses Lake-Orange County Line, it instantly enters a designated census spot from Killarney. Here, the SR 50 is officially named "West Colonial Drive." On both sides of the border connect the road to Old State Road 50, as well as trailheads to Lake Minneola Scenic Trail and West Orange Trail. Walking time in Killarney is short-lived though it enters Oakland where it curves briefly to the northeast to meet Florida's Turnpike, and Exit 27 is rebuilt recently. The road evolved into a total commercial line in Winter Garden, and served as the County 545 terminal north of Tildenville. It also cuts roads like County Road 535 as well as State Road 537. The only exchange is in Winter Garden with 429's State Road (Western Expressway's) Exit 23, but as soon as this SR50 exchange enters Ocoee where it intersects with Exit 267B Florida's Turnpike, on other connector roads without crossings. The next major intersection at Ocoee is State Road 439 (Bluford Avenue) in Minorville, which also serves as the west terminal of State Road 526 and leads to Old Winter Garden Road. Right after the intersection of Blackwood Avenue and the Health Center Hospital grounds, the road cuts off both Clarke Road and the connecting lane to and from State Road 408, which is considered Exit 1. The last segment of the Ocoee runs along more malls and cluster developments, then runs on along the causeway on Lake Lotta before entering Orlando. The first intersection in Orlando is the Good Home Way, but then SR 50 passes another highway over Lake Sherwood. After this, the road cuts the currently incomplete County Road 435 (Apopka-Vineland Road). Currently CR 435 is defeated at Jalan Hiawassee. Another major intersection in western Orlando includes the north end of State Road 435 (Kirkman Road). Briefly, the SR 50 runs through Orlando Chinatown and then resumes the previous commercial lane. Important crossroads include State Road 423 (John Young Parkway). To the east of the intersection, when the SR 50 met North Tampa Avenue, the road narrowed to four lanes.

Downtown Orlando and Nearby

US 17-US 92-US 441 (Orange Blossom Trail) serves as the western end of the US Route 17/92 (SR 500/SR 600) concurrency. Here, US 17-92 (and SR 600) concludes their concurrency with US 441, and joins SR 50, while US 441 and Orange Blossom Trail move further northwest in Florida and beyond. A railroad track runs along the right side of this intersection, and the first feature along the US multiplex 17/92-SR 50 is a class crossing. US 17/92 with SR 50 (and SR 600), meets the southern end of Edgewater Drive and passes Lake Dot Park and then Don Dudley Park before crossing Interstate 4 (SR 400; Exit 83B & amp; 84) then across CSX A-Line and State Road 527 (Orange Avenue to the south and Magnolia Avenue to the north) before it encounters State Road 15 (Mills Avenue), where US 17/92 turns north so marks the east end of US 17/92 (SR 600) concurrency. Between Maguire Boulevard and Lake Barton, the SR 50 runs along the northern border of the Orlando Executive Airport, but the airport sights are blocked by many shops and shopping centers. Across Lake Barton is the western end of the Old Cheney Highway, a former section of SR 50. The east of this intersection is Little Lake Barton, and the SR 50 starts curving to the northeast, but not as bad as the previous segment. Lake Barton stretches from around this intersection to the southwest corner of State Road 436 (Semoran Boulevard), which has been in exchange since 2010. The road continued its northeastern curve to Azalea Park as it passed the nearby Colonial High School College. honor SR50, then cut Old Cheney Highway for the second time but then move straight east again before intersection with State Road 551 (Goldenrod Road)

East Orlando and The Space Coast

Despite leaving Orlando, SR 50 remains in Orange County upon entering Union Park, Here the road has one intersection with State Road 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) at Exit 34, but the signs also point to State Highway 408. Entering University Park, SR 50 cuts off major highways such as State Road 434 (Alafaya Trail), and then east terminal State Road 408 at Exit 23, which is also the southern end of the Challenger Parkway at the University of Central Florida. After crossing the bridge over the Econlockhatchee River, the road curves to the southeast and passes Lockwood and then Bithlo which is close to the Orange County Raceway complex, which includes the Orlando Speed World Dragstrip and Speedway World Speed Orange. Further east in Bithlo, SR 50 serves as the west end of State Road 520 at the intersection with no exit numbers. This crossroads road turns straight east again and past Christmas, a rural community containing various Christmas shops, trailer parks and Jungle Adventures Nature Animal Park which boasts of having the world's largest "Swampy" crocodile.

Before crossing the St. Johns, SR 50 stretches along the northern border of Tosohatchee State Reserve. The western bridge to the river was built in 1967, while the eastern bridge was built in 1971. After crossing the third bridge along the river, entering Brevard County and the name change from East Colonial Drive to Cheney Highway. From here it runs along the southern border of Saint Johns National Wildlife Reserve, which ends at the intersection with Interstate 95 at Exit 215. SR 50 officially enters Titusville after passing through the entrance to The Great Outdoors Golf and the Recreational Vehicle Resort, west of the I-95 interchange. Soon this road was lined with gas stations and restaurants in the hotel as curves curved northeast to cut State Road 405, which functions as a semicircle around Titusville to the Kennedy Space Center. From here the road curves east again, and remains straight along most of the rest of the segment, with the exception of an area known as The Meadows between Hood Avenue and Moon Road. After the crossings of the Florida East Coast Railroad, the NASA Vehicle Assembly Building was visible just before the eastern end of SR 50 on Route 1 US.

State Road 50A (SR 50A) is a former SR 50 segment running along Jefferson's West and East Roads, all in Brooksville city in the State of Florida. Like its parent route, it's signed east-west.

The road starts at the intersection of SR 50 (Cortez Boulevard, including customized parts) and CR 485 (Cobb Road). The adjusted section of the SR 50 serves as Truck Route 50 as well as part of the US Truck 98, while the CR 485 also functions as a US Truck 98. At Ponce de Leon Boulevard (US 98/SR 700), it becomes simultaneously with US 98, east with SR 50 and Jasmine Drive. Shortly after this new agreement, it made right along North Mildred Avenue, for eastward traffic only, and both joined US 41. Between North Mildred Avenue and May Avenue, 5050 SR to the east, AS 41, and US 98 simultaneously along Broad Street while west of SR 50A, US 41, and US 98 simultaneously at East Jefferson Avenue, then West Jefferson Avenue. US 41 reunion with Broad Street on North Mildred Avenue. The one-way configuration for Broad Street and Jefferson Street has been in effect since November 1993, according to the Florida Department of Transport. While both segments up and down a steep hill in the heart of the city, the Broad Street section (eastward) stretches over an old bridge built in 1936.

Turn south on East Jefferson Street near Roger's Christmas House, SR 50A & amp; US 98 down an easier hill where it curved to the left before the crossing with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (formerly Summit Street/CR 581A), then switched past the CR 581 (Emerson Road) north terminal, finally reunited with SR 50, which US 98 became simultaneous with breaking away at Ridge Manor over 12 miles (19 km) east.

County Road 550

County Road 550 is a former segment and beach spur SR 50. It runs from the Gulf of Mexico in Bayport to US 19 at Weeki Wachee, where it becomes SR 50. Like its parent route, it is signed east-west , and was named Cortez Boulevard.

County Road 550 begins at Bayport Park to the east, then curves northeastward to a seafood restaurant on the southwest corner of the intersection with CR 495, just to turn east again over the coastal tidal swamps, owned by Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. Curved southeast, road past fishing camp and other restaurants before intersecting with CR 597 north of Weeki Wachee Gardens. From there, rare residential areas can be found, but after more forests, semi-commercial areas appear. The road eventually curved east before approaching the preserved land near the Spring Weeki Wachee and ended at the intersection of US 19 and SR 50.

County Road Old 50

County Road Old 50 is the previous segment of SR 50. Like its parent route, it's signed east-west. Although other county roads are also part of State Road 50, the only part signed as CR Old 50 is between Minneola and Lake-Orange County Line. The east segment CR 455 is part of the Green Mountain Scenic Byway.
