Early life and education

Careers
He first went to Mumbai City City Studios in May 1987, and immediately switched from a silent 2-D photography format to the 3-D art world. He joined the famous art director, Nitish Roy as the fourth assistant for the period TV series, Tamas (1987), directed by Govind Nihalani. After that he worked on TV series, Flood for five and a half years, Chanakya series for the first 25 episodes, and took over independently of the 26th episode onwards.
The first feature film was Adhikari Brothers' Bhookamp in 1993, but the Vidhu Vinod Chopra period movie, 1942: A Love Story in 1994 that got him noticed. Over the years he has worked in films such as Parinda Khamoshi , Maachis, Baadshah, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Raju Chacha, international projects like Salaam Bombay! Amok (a French film directed by Joel Farges, who won the Desai Pri Pri Genie nomination), Jungle Book, Kama Sutra, Canadian films Like the Long Journey and Holy Smoke. He also made two sets of Slumdog Millionaire 2008 films, which included the set of scenes of Kaun Banega Crorepati , coincidentally he also designed sets for the Star Plus TV series, and a set of Taj Mahal interiors.
He became a film producer in 2003, with a musical film, Desh Devi Maa Ashapura . Located on the outskirts of Mumbai in Karjat, the ND studio opened in 2005, spread across 52 hectares (21 acres), then Reliance Entertainment took a 50 percent stake in the studio for approximately Rs 1.50 billion. He turned to produce the TV series, with the series Marathi King Shivchhatrapati , which was a big hit.
In Marathi, he has produced Balgandharva's biopic film Balgandharva released in May 2011. He has also produced the reality TV show "Marathi Paul Padte Pudhe", which provides a platform for young talent. The concept is similar to America's Got Talent.
Currently he is working on Amol Gupte's "Sapno Ko Ginte Ginte", and after producing Channod Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johur TV series (2009), he is now producing the historic TV series, Taj Mahal and Baji Rao Mastani . In 2011, he also debuted as a lead actor by the Marathi film 'Hello Jai Hind' directed by Gajendra Ahire.
Most of Desai's successful works as art directors have been in the period films, as can be seen by the fact that all 4 National Film Awards for the Best Art Direction award are for period films.
