Sobi2 (previously written as SOBI2 ) stands for Sigsiu Online Business Index 2 . Sobi2 is a free source web directory component and a free content construction kit (CCK) for Joomla! content management system (CMS). Sobi2 is written in the PHP programming language, also utilizes Javascript and requires a MySQL database environment for storage. This is best suited for low to moderate traffic websites. The development of Sobi2 was discontinued in 2011, when its successor, SobiPro came out.
Sobi2 is listed on Joomla! Directory Extensions to all extensions for Joomla! 1.5 deleted in 2013. This list can still be found in the Web Archive.
As a component to Joomla! (up to version 1.5), Sobi2 makes it possible to run and manage directories in Joomla! website. Sobi2 has a feature that makes it stand out from other directory components at that time. It can be used as a web directory or as a directory to a physical location, such as a golf course. It has built-in integration with Google Maps (API key from Google required).

In 2006 Sigsiu.NET developed the Content Construction Kit for Joomla. Designed as a business directory (online business index), Sobi2 can be used for any type of directory.
Sobi2 has been designed as a component of SOBI component but not based on SOBI. It has been built new from the bottom because the SOBI table structure is not suitable for new features implemented in Sobi2. Sobi2 is built almost object-oriented. It runs under PHP4 and MySQL4.
The development of Sobi2 was discontinued in 2011, when its successor, SobiPro came out.
Description
Sobi2 is an add-on (component) for Joomla! (up to version 1.5) that makes it possible to run and manage directories in your Joomla! website.
To add a listing to a directory, the input form is required.
When setting up the directory, the input form is built by the site developer using the integrated field manager to add various field types (text input fields, text area (w/o WYSIWYG editor), check boxes, check box boxes, drop down selections, simple or calendar fields) to the form. The layout of the form can be changed with the use of built-in template engine.
During installation, Sobi2 creates input fields for business directories. They can be changed, deleted or extended by additional fields.
There is an option to create features from paid or free listings. For example. listings can be free but charged for links to websites. This is decided when setting up and managing components.
Site directory administrators can create, edit or delete lists in the Sobi2 administration panel.
The list in the Sobi2 directory is set to one or more categories. The category manager allows to create, edit, and delete categories in directories with unlimited nested depth.
As a complex Joomla! component, Sobi2 has different views to present its data. In an overview all directory listings are displayed with smaller descriptions, related to detailed descriptions. More views available (e.g., Alpha, search, user list).
Especially for directories with paid lists, but also to keep the directory up-to-date, Sobi2 has the possibility to associate a list with an expiration date. After expiration, the listing can be updated.
Sobi2 can be used "out of the box" or individually adapted to the site. It provides an editable style sheet file (CSS) in the administration panel, using an editor with syntax highlighting.
For advanced adaptations, separate templates are available for different views.
Sobi2 emails at different events (add, edit, update, approval). Sending email can be set separately for each event. The content of the email can be determined using placeholders, separately for each event.
Sobi2 has integrated the diagnostic system to record the problems that occur. The template parser is helpful in finding syntax errors when developing your own templates. The default system check detects whether the server is not eligible for Sobi2. Checker version checks for a newer version.
