Tahun Awal

CSX Transportation was formed on November 1, 1980, by combining the railroad tracks from Chessie System with Seaboard Coast Line Industries, and finally with Seaboard System Railroad in 1986. The Seaboard System's founders were the first Seaboard Air Line Railroad, formerly joined Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1967, and later with Louisville & amp; Nashville Railroad, as well as some smaller subsidiaries such as Clinchfield Railroad, Atlanta & amp; West Point Railroad, Monon Railroad, and Georgia Railroad. The origin of the Chessie System is Chesapeake & amp; Ohio Railway, which has joined Baltimore & amp; Ohio Railroad, and the West Maryland Railway.

The name emerged during the merger talks between Chessie System, Inc. and Seaboard System Railroad, Inc., commonly called "Chessie" and "Seaboard". The chairman of the company said that it is important for the new name not to include both names because it is a partnership. Employees were asked suggestions, most of which consisted of a combination of initials. At the same time, temporary short names are required for discussion with the Interstate Trade Commission. "CSC" was chosen but belonged to a trucking company in Virginia. "CSM" (for "Chessie-Seaboard Merger") is also taken. The lawyers decided to use "CSX", and the name was stuck. In a public announcement, it says that "CSX is very precise. C can represent Chessie, S for Seaboard, and X, which actually has no meaning." However, on August 9, 2016, the article on the Railway Age site states that "... 'X' is for 'Consolidation'". T should be added to CSX when used as a reporting mark because reporting a sign ending in X means that the car is owned by a leasing company or a private car owner. His current slogan, "How Tomorrow Moves", appeared in 2008.

Conrail Acquisition

In 1995, CSX initiated a new liability insurance requirement of $ 200 million to introduce their official policy "No steam on their own wheels", prohibit the operation of steam locomotives and other antique rail equipment on their tracking due to serious business, security issues, and increased risk.

On June 23, 1997, CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) filed jointly with the Surface Transport Council for the authority to purchase, share and operate assets of 11,000 miles (18,000 km) of Conrail, which was created in 1976 by uniting multiple systems the sickly North East train into a government-owned company. On June 6, 1998, STB approved the CSX-NS application and established August 22, 1998, as the effective date of its decision. CSX acquired 42 percent of Conrail's assets, and NS received the remaining 58 percent. As a result of these transactions, CSX rail operations expanded to cover about 3,800 miles (6,100 km) of the Conrail system (especially the lines owned by the New York Central Railroad). CSX began operating its carriages on the Conrail network part of June 1, 1999. CSX now serves most of the Eastern United States, with multiple routes to nearby Canadian cities.

Go to the 21st century

In 2014 the Canadian Pacific Railway approached CSX with an offer to merge the two companies, but CSX refused, and by 2015 Canadian Pacific made an effort to buy and join Norfolk Southern.

In 2017 CSX announced Hunter Harrison as its new chief executive; settlement with investor activist Paul Hilal and Mantle Ridge. CSX added five new directors to their board, including founder Harrison and Mantle Ridge, Paul Hilal. Mantle Ridge has 4.9 percent of CSX. On December 14, 2017, CSX announced that Hunter Harrison was on medical leave. Two days after the announcement, Harrison died, one day after being hospitalized for an ongoing illness complication. CSX initially saw a 10% decline in stock prices, but turned to reach 52 weeks of new highs less than a month later (January 2018).

    Rail unit

CSX operates Juice Train - the collective name for Train Nos. O823, Q740 and Q741, Q743, and Q745 - consisting of a Tropicana car carrying fresh orange juice between Bradenton, Florida, and the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey. Trains also run from Bradenton to Fort Pierce, Florida, via the East Coast Railway Florida. In the 21st century, Juice Trains have been studied as efficient rail transportation models that can compete with trucks and other modes in the trade of perishable goods. All Tropicana Trains are now added to Intermodal Trains like Q188 and Q124.

The Coke Express train operates between Pittsburgh and Chicago, and other places in the Rust Belt, carrying coke to various industries, especially steel mills.

CSX also runs daily trash trash Q702 and Q703 from The Bronx to Philadelphia (via Selkirk Yard) and then Petersburg, Virginia, where they exchange with NS. The train consists of 89-foot (27 m) flatcars containing four trash containers. A pair of other trains, Q710 and Q711, came from Kearny, New Jersey, and ended up in Russell, Kentucky.

Another style of unit trains is the local dump truck, the D765, which runs between the towns of Maryland, Derwood and Dickerson. Trains leave daily except on Sundays; on holidays sometimes run twice a day. Trash was taken from Shady Grove Station Transfer in Montgomery County to a waste-to-energy plant located at PEPCO leading to Mirant's Dickerson Excavation Station. The journey is approximately 17 miles (27 km), and the train consists of cars built by the National Steel Car Company, carrying a 40-foot container (12 m). The first NEMX equipment was built when the D765 began operating in 1995. In recent years, the fleet has been upgraded, repainted, and new cars have been built. In the early days, the locomotive that drives the train is a GP40-2/RDMT slug set, but currently the train can climb upwards of 47 cars. The locomotive that is now routinely driving the train is a pair of EMD SD50.

Working with Union Pacific, CSX runs an extended haous perishables train, Q090. Known by trains as "Apple Train" or "Salad Shooter", trains run from Wallula, Washington, to Schenectady, New York. This train usually runs with three of the newest Pacific Union locomotives and its long distance inspection from Wallula to Schenectady at Cleveland-Collinwood Yard in CSX leads in both directions. On the way back, the train was labeled Q091. CSX modified the Train Handling rule book to allow this train to use more electric axle. In early 2012, "Shooter Salad" slammed just a few miles northwest of Greenwich, Ohio. No injuries were reported in the incident.

    Paint and Aesthetics

In 2002, CSXT No. 8503, an EMD SD50 (which has since been downgraded to SD50-2), is painted with the new yellow and blue YN3 scheme. More than 1,000 CSX locomotives have been painted in the YN3 scheme.

CSX recently created a new paint scheme, known as YN3b, which updates YN3 with the latest CSX logo. The first unit to use this scheme is the ES44AH 950. Currently, ES44AHs CSX 950-999 and 3000-3249 and ET44AH 3250-3474 use this scheme, along with the recently repainted old locomotives, the first is the SD70AC CSXT 4719, which is repainted at Huntington Locomotive Store in September 2012. YN3b is also commonly found in reconditioned SD40-3.

All used Conrail locomotives in active service have been repainted with CSX livery.

In the 1990s, CSXT began installing lightning under street numbers in locomotives with AC traction and continuing this practice with new GE ES44AH and ET44AH locomotives.

CSX also has multiple locomotives with a "spirit" sticker with the name of the person or important location in the CSX system.

In 2016, CSX placed the logo of some of its predecessor rail lines in several locomotives, to maintain legal control over the logo.

    Locomotive

Former Conrail locomotives can be identified by recognizing phase differences in machine models and numbering. Other spotting details may be inconsistent, but may include some of the following: red marking lights, Leslie RS3L models or RS5T air horns (only a few of the original horns have been left, many have been replaced by K5LAs), former Conrail SD40-2s ride on Flexicoil " C "trucks and has anti-climber, trench lights mounted under anti-climber, headlamps above the cabin (vs standard CSX practice of nose-mounted headlights on all GE units that have multiple noses), and modify paint" Future Bright "with the facial battery box painted yellow (not black or blue).

In 2015, CSX trades 12 EMD SD80MACs for 12 SD40-2s from Norfolk Southern. They have all been rebuilt as SD40-3s.

CSX has been significant in rebuilding locomotives. CSX has 3 remanufactured of 4 AWD locomotive axles. EMD GP38-2, GP40-2, and SD40-2 have all been rebuilt for later Dash 3 standards with Wabtec Controlled Electronic Controlled Air Brakes, Electronic bells, (E-Bell), electronic hand brakes with mechanical backup, an airstarter in motor with backup power start, new designed safety crash cab, new electronic control booth, YN3B paint job, and Positive Train Control computer (PTC). They become EMD GP38-3s, GP40-3s, and SD40-3s respectively. Most Positive Stop Protection (PSP) features Remote Controlled Locomotives (RCL) and has yellow strobe lights on each side of the cabin, Locomotive Locomotive Control computer Cattron, Air Brake Transfer Valve (which transfers brake control from manual control to computer). ), a speed transponder scanner at each end, and a GPS receiver on the roof of the cabin to determine the location of the machine. Dash 3 RCL can also have handbrake applied by Remote Control Operator (RCO) by holding the left and right Vigilance switches on remote control unit operator box (OCU)! CSX has rebuilt the GP35 and GP30 EMD units as a road snail. CSX has also lowered the SD50 and GP40-2 units to reduce wear on the GP40-2 EMD engine derived from 3,000 horsepower to 2,000 horsepower during this process known as the GP38-2S locomotive and CSXT 6044 is one of those underestimated. Among the redevelopment of EMD, CSX has been rebuilding in many GE locomotives as well. CSX has revived most of the GE CW60AC and CW60AH locomotives with a GEVO-16 engine with 4,600 hp (3,430 kW) power, which essentially makes it too heavy ES44AH called CW46AH by CSX. Former Conrail GE B40-8 units have also been downgraded to 2,000 hp (1,491 kW) in an effort to reduce wheel slippage and low speed. They are redesigned as B20-8 and CSX since most units are sold or stored including 6 GE axes C40-8s. Another project group is the "heavy" unit. CSX has modified several GE CW44AC and CW44AH units into heavy units by adding an extra counterweight to the frame and inside the nose of her unit and the new computer to increase the traction effort at low speed, they are 432,000 pounds.

CSX also acquired several EMD F40PHs who have retired from Amtrak for executive offices and geometry train services.

With the arrival of Hunter Harrison, CSX has begun saving many locomotives. At the end of 2017, CSX plans to store or stop all GE CW40-8, CW40-9, CW60AC, CW60AH, CW46AH, EMD SD50, SD50-2, SD50-3, SD60M, SD60I, SD70M, SD70AC and SD70AE (SD70ACe ) units. Most GE units C40-8, B40-8, and B20-8 stored in Corbin, Kentucky have been retired and sold. Even with the passing of Harrison, his successor, James Foote, insisted the locomotive would still retire.
